good things come in threes

Three’s Company, Third Time’s the Charm, and when it comes to design, three could be your best friend, boo! We’re talking Rule of Thirds, and if you’ve been following along and cleared space to make way for your best self, we’ve got some additional tricks to make it as divine as you are! We know, when you hear ‘Rule of Thirds’ your mind instantly thinks of photography, but this technique is often used by designers to help turn blank spaces into statements. & all you need to start is a blank canvas! (Perhaps… a wall you’re looking to hang your latest Poché art on?)

Create a grid with three evenly-spaced horizontal and vertical lines, and then it’s as simple as asking yourself how you want to experience the room, ‘cuz there are several ways you can flex with this technique! The most common recommendation is to place elements at the intersections. Your grid should have four intersecting points, and studies show the human eye is naturally drawn to these locations. Pieces added here create a central flow and are said to add balance to any room. A commissioned piece of art you want your guests to comment on? A striking accent you’re hoping to cause some ‘ooh’s and ‘aah’s? These points are where it’s at, bby!

However, if you’re looking for a bit more symmetry, you can also place your ‘WOW’ factors along the middle and lower horizontal quadrants, or on opposing sides of the vertical axis. Then, guests can start from the bottom or sides of the room and work their way up and around taking in all your hard, talented ass work! There are so many ways to play with your space, babe. Have fun with it!
