the purge: making way for 2022!

Hey hey, Poché Posse! Happy New Year, Happy Lunar New Year, and Happy Black History Month!

The year is 2022, and after making it through the mess 2020 and her twin ’21 threw our way, it’s only right we start the year with our own intentions so we’re not swayed by what external forces have in store! Being in the house for such an extended period of time, many of us have accumulated hobbies and knickknacks that have helped keep us occupied, but 2022 is the year of 222 and it is time we get active and reacquainted with our purpose. As part of the Poché Posse, we know you’ve kept your eye on the bag and continue your work to positively impact your community, but you also know we believe in doing better than we have before, and you can’t make way for bigger and better if you’re holding on to remnants of the past. So let’s do this year right and make space for all the blessings coming our way!

Marie Kondo gained notoriety in the states after Tidying Up with Marie Kondo premiered on Netflix in 2019. Her KonMari method became sought after by those unable to escape the chaos of their homes-turned-workplaces, but more than that, her prompt of asking if that which we were holding on to “sparked joy” became a trending topic. Jobs, relationships, and household items were all held under the scrutiny of sparking joy, and people began to reevaluate the flow of energy they were permitting and emitting in their lives. And while we can’t toss everything that fails to bring us joy—so stop side-eyeing ya rowdy ass neighbor… unless that’s you lol—we can control how we react.

Grab a journal and let’s get to work! Here are some prompts to spark your personal purge:

  • What are some things you’re ready to let go of as we venture into the New Year?

  • What are some things you may not be ready to let go of just yet, but know it’s necessary if you wish to step fully into this next chapter of your life?

  • And more than anything: what does this next chapter look like for you? What are you hoping to achieve? What are you looking to make space for?

  • And then ask yourself again: what do I need to release for this to have the space it needs in my life?

We know honey, letting go is a scary, but letting go just means making way for better. Cuz better is always coming for you, boo!
